Peter’s job as an appellate lawyer entails two types of persuasion. The first -- and the one Peter most frequently employs -- is urging potential clients who lost in
the trial court not to hire him. Turning a trial court defeat into an appellate victory is much easier said than done. Often, Peter advises potential clients of the long odds they face, recommending that they move on with their lives and save the added expense of an appeal unlikely to yield a different result.

But, if a client nevertheless persists -- or better yet Peter forecasts a realistic chance of appellate success -- the second type of persuasion kicks in. That is, of course, convincing the appellate court that prejudicial error plagues the trial court record. Error manifests itself in innumerable ways such that entire treatises expound on the topic. Peter has enjoyed 30 years of success in uncovering reversible error for individual clients, small businesses, corporations, and public
agencies. His work spans multiple areas -- contracts; real estate; property; torts; family law; constitutional law including First Amendment, Second Amendment,
and Fourth Amendment cases; elections law; environmental law; public records; and many others.

Certified by the State Bar of California as a specialist in appellate law, Peter is one of only about 125 attorneys admitted to the California Academy of Appellate
Lawyers. His peers have selected him as a California Super Lawyer for 14 years between 2009 and 2023, and he has been named several times to the Best Lawyers in America in appellate law.
