Legends of San Francisco 14,
I was clearing my desk and saw the attached photo list from when I guested at Santa Rosa 1 earlier this month.
Whether guesting IRL or virtually I always have the meeting’s photo list in front of me.
I write down notes on:
⭐️ What folks do. Not necessarily their elevator pitches (unless they’re really fun/memorable), but if someone gives a presentation or has a member spotlight, especially if they serve a need that my clients may have.
⭐️ Who receives a lot of testimonials. That member is a giver. I make a note to get to know them, troika with them, and refer to them. I got this tip from Oakland 3’s GL, Jen Lee.
⭐️ Who gives memorable testimonials. I make a note to get to know them… etc.
⭐️ I write down any useful networking tips that I hear or observe. The gems I heard at the Santa Rosa 1 meeting were priceless. I especially liked:
🤩 Research the heck out of your troika mate.
🤩 Bringing a referral to the troika makes you unforgettable.
🤩 The best way to get business is to give business.
⭐️ I write down Group Leaders’ needs for their home groups and see if I can send them a candidate.
⭐️ If guesting in person, I doodle (as you can see) to improve my concentration. If guesting online, I embroider 🖋️🧵🪡 😊
What I don’t do when I guest:
❌ I do my best not to zone out during testimonials. It’s tempting, because why should one care if member A thanks member B? But there’s valuable data to be gathered from testimonials, as I said above.
❌ If in person, I don’t look at my phone (thanks to San Ramon 1’s Sarah Tetlow for that reminder). If virtual, I maximize my Zoom window so that I don’t check my email or do lightweight admin tasks because:
😬 Others can tell, which makes me look disorganized at best or disrespectful at worst;
😬 It’s cognitively exhausting to do email and pay attention to a meeting at the same time.
❌ I don’t ask to speak about my area of expertise. I’ve been in PV since 2018 and never once asked any GL (neither of groups I belong to or don’t belong to) to have me as a speaker.
If you don’t get to speak at PV meetings, how do you raise your profile in PV, pray tell? 🤔
That’s the topic of discussion at Maximizing Membership Masterclass, which is facilitated by our Leo Manzione:
How to promote yourself in PV without it feeling gross 🤮
