“So, what do you do?”

Legends of SF14,

As our co-GLA and Magician of our monthly Maximizing Membership Masterclass (MMM), Leo Manzione recently asked me to add to the onboarding checklist for new SF14 members the following piece of advice:

During troikas, don’t ask people what they do.

Why not?

Because “what do you do?” signals that I couldn’t be bothered to do the simplest prep for a professional meeting.

And that makes me look uninformed, disorganized and/or lazy.

If you’re willing to give me an hour of your time to troika with me, to learn about what I do, and to potentially refer to me, the least I can do is spend 5 minutes going over your PV hub page, website or LinkedIn page.

At the PV lunch Angela Dunz held at Gott’s, I met Dawn Garzoli (Santa Rosa 2).

I was impressed that Dawn came to the social with a notebook and pen and took notes the whole time.

She also brought printouts of each attendee’s LinkedIn pages.

That’s next level. I’ve seen folks print out photo lists (which Group Leaders typically send out before meetings and are also available on the event’s page on the hub) for PV events but never LinkedIn pages.

Dawn’s membership in Provisors doesn’t officially begin until 12/1 but I can already tell she’s going to go far in PV.

When she shows serious interest in what I do, I’ll take serious interest in what she does. Because reciprocity is part of human nature.

Before I close, please be informed that Hummurkey has already been brought to my attention (thanks, Carolyn Sweeney in Walnut Creek 2!) and my opinion is hell no! 😷🦃😄
